Outspoken, fearless, and unwavering are just some of the characteristics why I look up to such an empowered woman, more so a remarkable journalist named Christiane Amanpour. She was a war correspondent and now CNN’s chief international anchor of the award-winning global affairs program, “Amanpour.” For over 30 years in the field, she has interviewed world leaders and confidential personalities about issues that affect our society today. She also has reported some of the biggest news in history, including disasters, terrorism, and brutality, and has received countless television and journalism accolades.

I remember the first time I watched her on television — I was in grade school then. Yet, I was quickly engrossed and astonished by her alacrity and passion, and I immediately knew that I want to be her when I grow up. Hence, I am taking BA Communication in college. She gave me a sense of hope that I, too, can make an impact by utilizing my voice and my words correctly. She once said, “I believe that good journalism, good television, can make our world a better place.” and that quote inspired me to pursue my dream of becoming a news anchor.

Christiane Amanpour is one of the few news anchors and journalists I look up to in the field. For me, she is the embodiment of a good journalist: unbiased and hungry for truth. She is a living testament that empowered women can do everything. I wish to emulate her style and confidence to make an impact in the world through good journalism.
